There are several ways to track your workouts and other calorie-burning activities with Fitbit to help you meet your fitness goals. Sync your Fitbit device with the Fitbit app to see your daily totals and exercise history.
Exercise apps and modes on your Fitbit device
The exercise apps and modes on several Fitbit devices track specific activities to capture more precise heart-rate data and stats. For example, if you attend a spin class, make sure to choose the spinning activity on your device and then start the activity when you’re ready. You’ll see real-time stats and, depending on your device, a workout summary on your wrist. If you used GPS to track your exercise, route and pace information are stored in your exercise history. For more information on how to choose which exercises you want to track, see How do I use exercise apps and modes on my Fitbit device?
The SmartTrack feature automatically recognizes and identifies select continuous, high-movement activities at least 15 minutes long, to ensure you get credit for your most active moments of the day. When you sync your device, basic stats about your activity are recorded in your exercise history. For more information, see What should I know about SmartTrack?
Fitbit Ionic can automatically track your precise run stats including a GPS map. For more information see, How do I use exercise apps and modes on my Fitbit device?
The MobileRun feature in the Fitbit app uses your phone to track a walk, run, or hike and capture GPS data. Use MobileRun if you forgot your device or want to leave it at home. For more information, see How do I use the Fitbit app to capture GPS data?
Manually log an exercise
Manually log an exercise when:
- You forgot to wear your device
- To get credit for a calorie-burning activity that isn't measurable by your device or activities that aren’t step-based (such as yoga)
- Your tracker doesn't offer SmartTrack or exercise apps or modes
- You want to replace a recorded activity with manual data to improve your totals
For more information about why and how to log exercise manually, see How do I manually log an activity or exercise?
