How do I set up Fitbit Ace devices?

To set up Fitbit Ace devices for your kids, create a Fitbit family account and then connect the tracker to a phone, tablet, or computer.

How do I set up Ace or Ace 2 for my child?

Choose the instructions below based whether you already have a Fitbit account. Use the primary phone, tablet, or computer your child will use with their tracker.

  • I need to create a Fitbit account
    1. Download and install the Fitbit app from one of the following locations:
    2. With the tracker nearby, open the Fitbit app. 
    3. Tap Join Fitbit
    4. When prompted to choose a device to set up, tap Ace or Ace 2.
    5. Tap Continue
    6. Tap Create Account, and follow the on-screen instructions to create your Fitbit account. 
    7. Tap the link in the email you receive to verify your email address.
    8. Return to the Fitbit app, and tap Next.
    9. Tap Create Family Account.
    10. Follow the on-screen instructions to review the privacy notice.
    11. Enter your child's information for their account, and tap Next.
    12. On the Choose Mobile Device screen, tap Pair With This Device.
    13. Confirm you want to connect the tracker to this device. Kid view appears.
    14. Tap Set up a kid-compatible tracker now to join the Fitbit fun!
    15. Continue to follow the on-screen instructions to set up your child's tracker.
  • I already have a Fitbit account
    1. With the tracker nearby, open the Fitbit app, and log in to your account.
    2. Tap the account icon (User-added image) > Create Family Account
    3. Tap Create Family. Note that you may be prompted to verify your email address.
    4. Tap + Create Child Account.
    5. When prompted, enter your Fitbit password.
    6. Follow the on-screen instructions to review the privacy notice.
    7. Enter your child's information for their account, and tap Next.
    8. On the Choose Mobile Device screen, tap Pair With This Device.
    9. Confirm you want to connect the tracker to this device. Kid view appears.
    10. Tap Set up a kid-compatible tracker now to join the Fitbit fun!
    11. Continue to follow the on-screen instructions to set up your child's tracker.

Why do I need to connect Ace or Ace 2 to a phone, tablet, or computer?

Connect Ace or Ace 2 to an iPhone, iPad, Android phone, or Windows 10 device to transfer (or sync) data to your child’s dashboard in the Fitbit app, where you and your child can see their stats, participate in challenges, and more. To verify that your device is compatible with the Fitbit app, go to www.fitbit.com/devices.

Does my child need their own device to set up Ace or Ace 2?

For the best experience, have your child connect Ace or Ace 2 to their device. If your child doesn’t have one, you can connect their tracker to your device. Note that you can only connect the tracker to 1 device. 

How do I add more child accounts to my Fitbit family account?

    Create additional child accounts after you set up your family account.
    1. In parent view, tap the account icon (User-added image) > My Family
    2. Find the option to create a child account.
    3. Enter your Fitbit password.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to review the privacy notice.
    5. Continue to follow the on-screen instructions to set up a new child account.

    Can I connect more than one tracker to my device?

    You can connect multiple trackers to your device. For instructions on how to sync multiple trackers, see How do I sync Ace or Ace 2 with my device?

    How do I see my child’s stats in the Fitbit app?

    Both you and your child can see their daily stats under kid view in the Fitbit app. Note that your child must sync their tracker to see updated activity data in the app.

    To switch from parent view to kid view:

    1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon (User-added image).
    2. Tap My Family.
    3. Tap your child’s name.
    4. Tap Switch to Kid View.

    To return to your Fitbit account:

    1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon (User-added image).
    2. Tap Switch to Parent View.
    3. When prompted, enter your password. 

    How does my child sync Ace or Ace 2 with their device?

    Syncing is the process that transfers the data the tracker collects to your child’s dashboard in the Fitbit app. If the tracker is paired to your child’s device, it syncs every time your child opens the Fitbit app.

    After your child syncs their tracker, log into your Fitbit family account on your device to check their daily activity.

    If you have more than one child account connected to the same device, you must sync each tracker individually. For instructions, see How do I sync Ace or Ace 2 with my device?

    How do I sync Ace or Ace 2 with my device?

    If your child or children don’t have their own device, you can sync their trackers with your device. Note that if you have multiple trackers connected to the same device, you must sync each tracker individually. 

    To begin, create a Fitbit child account for each child and follow the on-screen instructions to connect the trackers to your device. For instructions, see How do I set up Ace or Ace 2 for my child? 

    After you connect the trackers, follow the steps below to sync each tracker:
    1. With the trackers nearby, log in to your Fitbit account.
    2. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the account icon (User-added image).
    3. Tap My Family > your child’s name.
    4. Tap Switch to Kid View to see your child’s Fitbit dashboard.
    5. Tap the image of the tracker at the top.
    6. Scroll down, and find the option to Sync Now
    7. After the tracker syncs, tap the account icon (User-added image) to return to the account screen.
    8. Scroll down to tap Switch to Parent View, and enter your password.
    9. Repeat steps 2-7 to sync additional trackers.

    Why do I need to enter information about my child during setup?

    To set up an account, you’re prompted to enter information such as your child’s height to help calculate their activity. Only other members in your family account or Fitbit friends you approve can send your child direct messages or invite them to participate in challenges. 

    Why can’t I verify my email address?

    If you don’t see the email to verify your Fitbit account, check your spam folder. If you didn’t receive the email, contact Customer Support
