How do I set up Fitbit Ace?

To set up Fitbit Ace for your kids, create a Fitbit family account and then connect the tracker to a phone, tablet, or computer.

Why do I need to connect Ace to a phone, tablet, or computer?

Connect Ace to an iPhone, iPad, Android phone, or Windows 10 device to transfer (or sync) data to your child’s dashboard in the Fitbit app, where you and your child can see their stats, participate in challenges, and more. To verify that your device is compatible with the Fitbit app, go to www.fitbit.com/devices.

Does my child need their own device to set up Ace?

For the best experience, have your child connect Ace to their device. If your child doesn’t have one, you can connect Ace to your device. Note that you can only connect Ace to one device. 

How do I set up Ace for my child?

To set up Ace, you must log in to or create your own account in the Fitbit app and then create a Fitbit family account. 

Complete the steps below using the primary phone, tablet, or computer your child will use with Ace.

Fitbit Ace setup instructions:

  1. Download and install the Fitbit app from one of the following locations:
    1. iPhones and iPads—Apple App Store
    2. Android phones—Google Play Store 
    3. Windows 10 devices—Microsoft Store 
  2. With Ace nearby, open the Fitbit app. If you already have a Fitbit account, log in and then skip to step 3. If you don’t have an account, complete these steps:
    1. Tap Join Fitbit
    2. When prompted to choose a device to set up, tap Ace.
    3. Tap Continue
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to create your Fitbit account. 
    5. If prompted, verify your email address, and return to the Fitbit app.
  3. Tap Create Family Account. If you already have a Fitbit account, tap the Account icon (User-added image) to see this option. Note that you may be prompted to verify your email address if you haven't already done so.
  4. Tap Create Family.
  5. Under My Family, find the option to create a child account. Then enter your Fitbit account password.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to review the privacy notices.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your child’s information for their account.
  8. On the Choose Mobile Device screen, tap Pair With This Device.
  9. Confirm you want to connect Ace to this device. Kid view appears.
  10. Continue to follow the on-screen instructions to set up Ace for your child.

To set up additional child accounts:

  1. From your child’s Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon (User-added image).
  2. Scroll down and tap Switch to Parent View. Then enter your Fitbit password. 
  3. Tap the Account icon (User-added image) > My Family
  4. Find the option to create a child account.
  5. Enter your Fitbit password.
  6. Continue to follow the on-screen instructions to set up a new child account.

Can I connect more than one Ace to my device?

You can connect multiple trackers to your device. For instructions on how to sync multiple trackers, see How do I sync Ace with my device?

How do I see my child’s stats in the Fitbit app?

Both you and your child can see their daily stats under kid view in the Fitbit app. Note that your child must sync Ace to see updated activity data in the app.

To switch from parent view to kid view:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon (User-added image).
  2. Tap My Family.
  3. Tap your child’s name.
  4. Tap Switch to Kid View.

To return to your Fitbit account:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon (User-added image).
  2. Tap Switch to Parent View.
  3. When prompted, enter your password. 

How does my child sync Ace with their device?

Syncing is the process that transfers the data Ace collects to your child’s dashboard in the Fitbit app. If Ace is paired to your child’s device, it syncs every time your child opens the Fitbit app.

After your child syncs Ace, you can log into your Fitbit family account on your device to check their daily activity.

If you have more than one child account connected to the same device, you must sync each tracker individually. For instructions, see How do I sync Ace with my device?

How do I sync Ace with my device?

If your child or children don’t have their own device, you can sync their trackers with your device. Note that if you have multiple trackers connected to the same device, you must sync each tracker individually. 

To begin, create a Fitbit child account for each child and follow the on-screen instructions to connect the trackers to your device. For instructions, see How do I set up Ace for my child? 

After you connect the trackers, follow the steps below to sync each Ace:
  1. With the trackers nearby, log in to your Fitbit account.
  2. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon (User-added image).
  3. Tap My Family > your child’s name.
  4. Tap Switch to Kid View to see your child’s Fitbit dashboard.
  5. Tap the image of Ace at the top of the dashboard.
  6. Scroll down and find the option to Sync Now
  7. After the tracker syncs, tap the Account icon (User-added image) to return to the Account screen.
  8. Scroll down and tap Switch to Parent View and enter your password.
  9. Repeat steps 2-7 to sync additional trackers.

Why does Fitbit ask for information about my child during setup?

To set up an account, you’re prompted to enter information such as your child’s height to help calculate their activity. Only other members in your family account or Fitbit friends you approve can send your child direct messages or invite them to participate in challenges. 

Why can’t I verify my email address?

If you don’t see the email to verify your Fitbit account, check your spam folder. If you didn’t receive the email, contact Customer Support
