How do I manage my child in the Fitbit app?
If you sign in to the Fitbit app with your Google Account, use the Google Family Link app to manage your children's screen time, apps, and more. For more information, see the Google help article Create a family on Google.


Tap the You tab Friends. Your child's daily step count appears in the list of your friends.
You can access and manage your child's information by signing into their Google Account and going to Fitbit data and privacy settings. If you need to reset your child's password, see the Google help article Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link.

You and your child can see their daily stats including step count, active minutes, and sleep patterns under kid view in the Fitbit app. Note that your child must sync their tracker to see updated activity data in the app.
To switch from parent view to kid view:
- Tap the You tab
Family.
- Under your child's name, tap Switch to Kid View.
To return to your Fitbit account:
- Tap Settings
.
- Tap Switch to Parent View, and confirm.
- When prompted, enter your password.

If you sign in with your Fitbit login, you can manage your Fitbit family in parent view. Switch to kid view so you and your child can see their daily stats and your child can interact with other members of the Fitbit family.

If you sign in with your Fitbit login, children can see their daily stats and sleep patterns, and interact with other members of your Fitbit family through kid view.

Note: If you sign in with a Google Account, you can manage your Google family group as the family manager. For more information, see the Google help article Manage your family on Google.
If you sign in with your Fitbit login, guardians can manage child accounts, see daily stats for children in the family account (under kid view), and invite other family members to join the account. Each family account may have multiple guardians.
The main guardian is the creator of the Fitbit family and can add or delete other guardians. If the main guardian deletes their Fitbit account or family account, all child accounts are also deleted.
Note that all guardians must be at least 18 years old, have a Fitbit account, and share their birthday information in the Fitbit app. For more information about privacy settings, see How do I manage my Fitbit profile?


As the family manager, you can invite up to 5 people to join your Google family group. For more information, see the Google help article Manage your Family on Google.

To add a family member or guardian to your family account, first add them as a friend on Fitbit. For instructions, see How do I connect with friends on Fitbit?
After they confirm the friend request:
- Tap the You tab
.
- Tap Family. Make sure you’re in parent view.
- Find the Invite Members or Add Guardians option, and tap the name of the person you want to invite. They’ll receive an email and notification in the Fitbit app inviting them to join the family.


The family manager of a Google family group can add their children to the group. For more information, see the Google help article Join a family on Google.

You must be invited to join a Fitbit family by a guardian. Tap the link in the email you receive or respond to the request in the Fitbit app. Note that you must have a Fitbit account and verify your email address to join a Fitbit family.
To accept the request in the Fitbit app:
- Tap the Today tab
, then tap Inbox
.
- Tap Messages.
- Tap the request to open it.
- Tap Join Family.


If you're the family manager, you can add a parent to your Google family group. Keep in mind the parent won't appear as a guardian in the Fitbit app. For more information, see the Google help article Add a parent to your family group.

The main guardian of the Fitbit family can make other members into guardians:
- Tap the You tab
.
- Tap Family.
- Make the member into a guardian:
- iPhones and iPads: Swipe left on the member’s name
Guardian.
- Android phones: Press and hold on the member's name
Make guardian.
- iPhones and iPads: Swipe left on the member’s name
- Confirm you want to make the member into a guardian.


Have your child complete these steps in the Fitbit app:
- Tap the You tab
.
- Tap Friends
Add Friends.
- Choose a method to find friends, then tap the Add Friend icon next to the name or email address of the person you want to add.
The guardian receives a notification to approve or decline the friend request.

Members of your Fitbit family are added automatically to your child’s list of Fitbit friends. With your approval, your child can add friends outside of your family.
To send friend requests for a child:
- Under kid view, have your child tap the You tab
Friends.
- Tap Add Friends.
- Have your child enter their friend’s email address or Fitbit user name, and then submit the request for approval. You’ll receive an email and notification under parent view.
- To approve the request, tap the link in the email, or switch to parent view and tap Notifications. Then tap the notification and approve it.
After you approve the request, a notification is sent to the friend. Note that if your child adds another child as a friend, their main guardian must also approve the request.


Your child can cheer, taunt, and send and receive messages from friends.

Through kid view, your child can message, cheer, or taunt their Fitbit friends.
Only other members in your family account or Fitbit friends you approve can send your child direct messages.
To interact with others:
- Under kid view, have your child tap Friends.
- Tap the person your child wants to message, cheer, or taunt.
- To send a message, have your child tap Message; otherwise, tap Cheer or Taunt.
- Have your child write the message and then send it.


When a child is about to turn 13 (or the applicable age in their country), the child and their family manager will receive an email message. For more information, see the Google help article Age requirements on Google.

When your child reaches the minimum age required in your country, they can upgrade their account in the Fitbit app. Your child can choose to upgrade at any time, or to keep their child account. Their previous Fitbit data is automatically transferred to the new account.
A notification will appear in the Fitbit app and you'll receive an email message when your child can upgrade to a standard account.

Your child gains access to all the features in the Fitbit app, including weight measurements, estimated calories burned, and menstrual health tracking. Your child can also move Fitbit to their Google Account if you haven't done so already.
Note that your child’s device shows the same stats even after they can manage their account.


Your child must take control of their Google Account, then upgrade in the Fitbit app. Have your child complete these steps:
- Open the email message in their inbox with the subject line "Ready to take charge of your Google Account?"
- Follow the instructions in the email message to take control of their account. For more information, see the Google help article How Google Account work when children turn 13 (or the applicable age in your country).
- Open the Fitbit app, tap Upgrade, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Have your child complete these steps under kid view in the Fitbit app:
- On the Today tab
, tap the message at the top
Upgrade.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to review Fitbit’s Terms of Service and data and privacy policies.
- Enter their email address.
- When prompted, verify their email address, and return to the Fitbit app.
- Continue to follow the on-screen instructions to enter their account details.
- Review Fitbit’s Privacy Policy, and tap I agree.
- On the Congratulations screen, tap Got It to see their new Today tab.

Guardians can remove members and children from the My Family option in the Fitbit app. The main guardian can also remove other guardians. Note that removing a child from the family also deletes the child’s Fitbit account and all related data.
To remove someone:
- Tap the You tab
.
- Tap Family.
- Remove the person from the family account:
- iPhones and iPads: Swipe left on the person's name
Remove.
- Android phones: Press and hold on the person's name
Remove.
- iPhones and iPads: Swipe left on the person's name
- Confirm you want to remove them.


Your child can delete the Fitbit service from their Google Account:
- In the Fitbit app, tap the You tab
.
- Tap Your data in Fitbit.
- Tap Delete Fitbit from your Google Account.
If necessary, you can log in to your child's Google Account and delete the Fitbit service.

Guardians can delete their child’s Fitbit account by removing them from the family account.
To delete your child’s Fitbit account:
- Tap the You tab
.
- Tap Family.
- Under your child's name
Delete Profile.
- Confirm you want to delete the account.
- When prompted, enter your password.
- Tap the link in the email you receive to request to have the account deleted. Note that the email is sent to the guardian who deleted the account.
If you change your mind, you have 7 days to recover the account. To do so, switch to kid view in the Fitbit app and tap Recover.

Guardians and family members can leave a Fitbit family. Main guardians must delete the Fitbit family in order to leave the family.
- Tap the You tab

- Tap Family.
- Leave the family account:
- iPhones and iPads: Swipe left on your name
Leave Family.
- Android phones: Tap the 3 dots
Leave Family.
- iPhones and iPads: Swipe left on your name
- Confirm you want to leave the family account.


If you're the family manager, you can delete your family group. For more information, see the Google help article Manage your Family on Google.

Main guardians must remove all members from the Fitbit family before deleting the family. Note that removing a child from the family also deletes the child’s Fitbit account and all related data.
- Tap the You tab

- Tap Family.
- Remove each family member from the account. For instructions, see How do I remove someone from the My Family option in the Fitbit app?
- After you remove all members, tap the 3 dots
Delete Family.

If you're the manager of your Google family group and you remove the Fitbit service from your account, you can no longer supervise your child's activity on Fitbit. If you restore the Fitbit service to your account within 30 days, you can supervise your child's activity again.
