Before you head to the gym, make sure you’ve got what you need. Keys, water bottle, phone, and:

You're ready to walk out the door! Now what kind of workout are you going to do?

Power-up your device to power through your workout

With a battery life of several days, forgetting to charge your Fitbit device is easy. Remember to give your device a quick charge so it can track even your longest gym sessions. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?

Add your favorite exercises to your device

On select Fitbit devices, you can customize the exercise app to show only the workouts that interest you. Keep the treadmill exercise if you use it, and ditch swimming if you don’t. For more information, see How do I customize the exercises on my Fitbit device?

After you update the Exercise app (User-added image) on your device, you’re ready to work out! Don’t forget to start the exercise before you start sweating. For more information, see How do I track exercise and activity with my Fitbit device?

 Control music from your wrist

Give your workout an extra boost with the right playlist. Control music playing on your phone with select Fitbit devices. For more information, see How do I control music with my Fitbit device?

If you don’t want to keep track of your phone at the gym, you can also listen to music stored directly on your Ionic or Versa series*. For more information, see How do I listen to music and podcasts on my Fitbit watch?

Crank up the music volume to match your workout intensity. Ionic and Versa series* pair with Bluetooth headphones, so you can listen to music stored on your device in the Music (User-added image), Pandora (User-added image), or Deezer (User-added image) apps. For more information, see How do I connect Bluetooth audio devices to my Fitbit watch?

If you own Fitbit Flyer wireless headphones, see How do I connect Flyer to my audio devices?
*This feature isn't available on Fitbit Versa Lite Edition.

 Exercise to your heart's content

Maybe you want to target your workout for fat-burning or cardio training, or see how many minutes you spend in your peak heart-rate zone during spin class. Check your heart rate while you sweat to see how hard you’re working. For more information, see What should I know about my heart rate data?

For guidance on how to use your heart-rate zones to meet your fitness goals, see Get in the Zone: How to Burn Fat Fast with Target Heart Rate Training.

HIIT your goals with the interval timer

If you need a quick workout but want to burn maximum calories, use your device to track a High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout. For more information, see How do I track intervals during my workout?

You can also learn more about HIIT in the Fitbit blog: It's Never Too Late to Take Up High-Intensity Interval Training. Here's How to Start.

 Let us Coach you

Not sure what exercises you want to do? Are your favorite machines taken? Grab a corner of the gym and follow along with your personal coach. For more information, see About Fitbit Coach. Don’t forget to download the app before you head to the gym!

If you have an Ionic or Versa series*, you can follow along from your wrist. For more information, see How do I use the Coach app on my Fitbit watch?
*This feature isn't available on Fitbit Versa Lite Edition.
