Which core stats does my Fitbit device track automatically?

All Fitbit devices track steps taken  and Active Zone Minutes  or active minutes . Additional core stats vary based on your device. Choose to track a variety of other stats, including sleep, exercise, water and food intake, weight, and menstrual health in the Fitbit app.

Check your activity stats on your device or on the Today tab  in the Fitbit app.

Which activities does my Fitbit device track automatically?

Most Fitbit devices automatically recognize and record high-movement activities through the SmartTrack feature. To start, your device recognizes activities at least 15 minutes long. To manage which activities are tracked automatically or adjust the minimum duration:

  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap the Exercise days tile.
  2. Tap the gear icon at the top.
  3. Tap the activity you want to adjust.

*On Charge 4, Charge 5, Charge 6, Sense series, and Versa series, the Exercise app  opens automatically after a few minutes of running when run detect is on. Charge 6, Sense 2, and Versa 4 also automatically detect and open the Exercise app to track walks and bike rides when walk detect and bike detect are turned on.

See your stats

On certain devices, see basic stats about your activity, including duration and calories burned, in the Exercise tile  in Fitbit Today , or sync your device and tap Exercise days in the Fitbit app.

Can I change how my activities are tracked?

Choose which activities your device tracks automatically, or change the amount of time needed to record the activity. For example, choose to turn off automatic tracking for a walk, or to record an outdoor bike ride after 5 minutes.

  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap the Exercise days tile.
  2. Tap more , and then tap Activity Settings.
  3. Tap an exercise, and adjust the duration or turn off Auto-recognize

  1. From the fitbit.com dashboard, click the gear icon  your device name.
  2. Under Auto-Exercise Recognition, for each exercise adjust the duration or select Ignored to turn off automatic exercise recognition.
To change how your activity is labeled in the Fitbit app, tap the Today tab , and then tap Exercise days. For example, your device might detect a walk, but you can edit your exercise history to record a hike. For more information, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?
What are real-time workout stats in the Fitbit app?

See your stats in real time while using a workout video in the Fitbit app. Stats include:

  • Current heart rate and heart-rate zone
  • Calories burned since starting the video
  • Active Zone Minutes earned since starting the video

To see real-time stats:

On your phone, open the Fitbit app and tap the Coach tab . Choose a workout and tap to start.

To hide real-time stats:

During a workout, tap the video on your phone's screen  tap the collapse arrows  on your stats. To see your stats again, tap the expand icon .

How do I earn Active Zone Minutes or active minutes on my Fitbit device?

Earn Active Zone Minutes  or active minutes  with heart-pumping activity throughout the day, including a brisk walk, run, or interval workout.

What is my hourly activity goal on my Fitbit device?

An hourly activity goal helps you keep moving throughout the day. To start, your goal is to take at least 250 steps per hour (which equals a few minutes of walking) from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., 7 days a week. You can adjust the hours that you track your goal and receive reminders to move.

What is my weekly exercise goal on my Fitbit device?

A weekly exercise goal helps you stay active. The American Heart Association recommendations 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity at least 5 days per week (source). To start, your goal is 5 days per week, but you can track your goal 1 to 7 days per week. Any exercise that your device records counts toward your goal.

Can I change my activity goal on my Fitbit device?

To start, your primary goal is 10,000 steps per day. When you hit this goal, your device vibrates, and a celebration appears on the screen. Choose to increase or decrease your step goal, or to change your goal to Active Zone Minutes or calories burned. You can also set goals in other areas such as sleep and hydration.
