What’s the daily readiness score in the Fitbit app?

Understand what’s best for your body with your daily readiness score, available with a Fitbit Premium membership. Check the Fitbit app each morning to see your score, ranging from 1 to 100, based on your activity, sleep, and heart-rate variability.

A high readiness score (30 or above) means you’re ready to exercise. When you check your score in the Fitbit app, you’ll see suggested Fitbit Premium workouts and a personalized Active Zone Minutes goal to help you stay motivated.

A low readiness score (29 or lower) suggests you should prioritize recovery and let your body and mind relax. Allowing your body to recover is an essential part of achieving any health and wellness goals. When you check your score in the Fitbit app, you’ll see personalized recommendations for Premium content like guided meditations, stretching, and yoga to help you recharge or better manage stress.

Your daily goals and recommendations adapt with you over time.

How is my daily readiness score calculated?

Your daily readiness score is based on data collected by your Fitbit device, broken down into the following categories:

  • Activity: Your level of fitness fatigue, which is based on your heart-rate data for the past couple weeks. High fitness fatigue means you should take it easy, while low fitness fatigue means you should prioritize recovery. Note that only activities that raise your heart rate to moderate (fat burn), vigorous (cardio), or peak heart-rate zones impact your score.
  • Sleep: How much you slept in the past week. If you’ve been experiencing poor sleep, your body might not be ready to exercise.
  • Heart-rate variability (HRV): The variation in time between your heartbeats, based on data collected over the past month. HRV impacts your body’s ability to recover. Higher HRV may indicate that your body is better able to quickly shift between periods of rest and intense activity, while lower HRV may indicate your body is experiencing stress, strain, or illness. For more information about HRV, see How do I track heart rate with my Fitbit device?

Before you receive your first daily readiness score, you wear your Fitbit device continuously for 4 days to get your baseline. Your readiness score is then based on how your stats in each category compare to your personal baseline. This data helps you understand how your activity levels, sleep patterns, and stress from the previous days contribute to your energy levels. Wear your device consistently for at least 2 weeks to develop a more accurate personal baseline.

Tip: To get the most out of your daily readiness score, aim for at least 30 minutes of activity that increases your heart rate 3 times per week.

How is my daily readiness score related to my stress management and sleep scores?

Your daily readiness, stress management, and sleep scores provide a holistic view of your overall health and wellness each day.

  • Daily readiness score: Understand your physical preparedness for exercise. A high score indicates your body is ready to take on higher intensity activities, and a low score indicates you should prioritize recovery.
  • Stress management score: Understand how your body is responding to stress. A high score indicates you’re better able to deal with stress and take on new challenges, and a low score indicates you should take time to recharge. For more information, see How do I track and manage stress with my Fitbit device?
  • Sleep score: Understand your sleep quality the previous night. A high score indicates you got a good night's rest, and a low score indicates you may need to improve your sleep habits. For more information, see What's sleep score in the Fitbit app?
Why don’t I see a daily readiness score in the Fitbit app?
  • You must be a Fitbit Premium member using a compatible device. For a list of compatible devices, see Who can see a daily readiness score in the Fitbit app?
  • To receive your first daily readiness score, you must wear your Fitbit device 14 hours per day for at least 4 days and nights. To continue receiving a score, wear your device 4+ nights per week.
  • If you already received your first score, make sure you wear your device for at least 1 full day (during the day and to sleep at night), then check your score after you wake up in the morning. To see a daily readiness score, you must wear your Fitbit device for at least 14 hours.
  • Make sure the back of your device is in contact with your skin. The band should be snug but not constricting.
  • Most metrics require at least 3 hours of quality sleep. If you move a lot during your sleep or the sleep session is too short, you might not get a reading.
