Can I manually log sleep in the Fitbit app?

Most Fitbit devices automatically start and stop your sleep log. If you feel the automatic sleep detection is inaccurate, you can use the app to start and stop sleep tracking instead. Note that this option doesn't apply if you use a Fitbit device with heart-rate tracking to detect your sleep stages. For more information about sleep stages, see What should I know about sleep stages?

To manually log sleep:
  1. In the Fitbit app, tap the Today tab User-added image, then tap the sleep tile.
  2. Tap the + icon > Begin Sleep Now. Sleep will still be tracked if you close the app.
  3. When you wake up, tap I'm Awake, then tap View Summary to see a summary of your sleep.
Note that you can't manually log sleep in the Fitbit app on Windows 10 devices.

Why does my sleep graph in the Fitbit app say I was asleep when I wasn't?

Although trackers and watches that autodetect sleep are designed to know when the device is off your wrist, occasionally they may record a sleep log when you aren't actually asleep. To delete this sleep log, see How do I delete a sleep log in the Fitbit app?

Why does my sleep graph in the Fitbit app say I was awake when I wasn't?

Tossing and turning during sleep can occur during an unconscious state; however, it does not indicate total rest. If you feel that the reported number of awake minutes is excessively high, go to the Sleep Sensitivity setting to see if your sleep tracking mode is set to sensitive. A normal setting may be more appropriate if you are looking for a more general overview of your sleep patterns. Note that this setting doesn't apply if you use a Fitbit device with heart-rate tracking to detect your sleep stages.

How do I edit a sleep log in the Fitbit app?

  1. Tap the Today tab User-added image, then tap the sleep tile.
  2. Tap the sleep log you want to edit.
  3. Tap the three dots and find the option to edit (on Android phones, tap the pencil icon in the top right).
  4. Adjust the time you went to sleep or the time you woke up, and save.

Note that for devices that receive sleep stages, if you you extend your time asleep, you may notice gaps at the beginning or end of your sleep stages.

How do I delete a sleep log in the Fitbit app?
