How do I use Suica on my Fitbit device?

Add Suica to your Fitbit device to pay for transit and goods anywhere Suica is accepted.
For Fitbit devices that can use either Google Wallet or Fitbit Pay for contactless payments, choose Fitbit Pay to use Suica.

Where is Suica used?
Suica is a prepaid e-money card issued by Japan Railway East (JR East). It’s used to pay for transit and for goods at certain vending machines, convenience stores, and coin lockers, and many more retail stores. Stores that accept Suica typically display an e-money symbol. For more information on where Suica is accepted, see jreast.co.jp.
Which Fitbit devices are compatible with Suica?

Google Pixel Watch, Fitbit Charge 4, Fitbit Charge 5, Fitbit Charge 6, Fitbit Sense, Fitbit Sense 2, Fitbit Versa 3, and Fitbit Versa 4 are compatible with Suica. To use Suica:

Charge 4

Certain Fitbit Charge 4 trackers sold in Japan are compatible with Suica. Compatible devices have a Suica sticker on the box.

Note that not all Charge 4 trackers are compatible with Suica.

Charge 5, Charge 6, Sense, Sense 2, Versa 3, and Versa 4
  • Sense and Versa 3 must be running Fitbit OS 5.2 or higher. For more information on updating your watch, see How do I update my Fitbit device?
  • For Sense and Versa 3, the Fitbit app must be on version 3.43 or higher. For Charge 5, the Fitbit app must be on version 3.47 or higher. For Sense 2 and Versa 4, the Fitbit app must be on version 3.66. For more information on updating the Fitbit app, see How do I use the Fitbit app?
How do I set up Suica on my Fitbit device?
  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap the devices icon   your device.
  2. Tap the Wallet tile.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to set a 4-digit PIN code for your device if you haven’t already done so.
  4. Tap Suica, and follow the on-screen instructions to add Suica to your Fitbit Pay Wallet.
    • As part of the initial Suica setup, you’re asked to use Google Wallet to add value to Suica. For more information on Google Wallet, see support.google.com.

Note that if you don’t see the Suica tile listed in your Fitbit Pay Wallet, your device isn’t compatible with Suica. For more information, see Which Fitbit devices are compatible with Suica?

How do I pay for transit or goods with Suica on my Fitbit device?

After you add Suica to your Wallet, hold your Fitbit device near an automated gate, bus on-board reader, or the Suica reader to pay for transit or goods. Note that you don't need to wake your Fitbit device’s screen or enter your PIN to pay with Suica, but your device must be turned on.

When you use Suica on your Fitbit device for transit, make sure Suica has sufficient funds and your device is charged before beginning your trip.

How do I see the current balance of Suica on my Fitbit device?
Fitbit app
  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap the devices icon   your device.
  2. Tap the Wallet tile.
  3. Your current balance is listed under Suica in the Instant Access section.
On-device

Charge 4

  1. Press and hold the button on Charge 4 for 2 seconds.
  2. If prompted, enter your 4-digit tracker PIN code. Your default card appears on the screen.
  3. If Suica isn’t your default card, tap to find it. Your current balance is listed under Suica.

Google Pixel Watch

  1. Tap the Wallet tile  on your watch .

  2. Tap Suica.

  3. Swipe down.

  4. Tap Details.

Sense, Sense 2, Versa 3, and Versa 4

  1. Open the Wallet app  on your watch.
  2. If prompted, enter your 4-digit watch PIN code. Your default card appears on the screen.
  3. If Suica isn’t your default card, tap to find it. Your current balance is listed under Suica.

Charge 5 and Charge 6

  1. Swipe down from the clock face and tap Payments.
  2. If prompted, enter your 4-digit tracker PIN code. Your default card appears on the screen.
  3. If Suica isn’t your default card, swipe up to find it. Your current balance is listed under Suica.
How do I add funds to Suica on my Fitbit device?
  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap the devices icon   your device.
  2. Tap the Wallet tile.
  3. Tap Suica  Add Value.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to add value to Suica using Google Wallet.

Note that auto-charge isn’t available for Suica on your Fitbit device.

If you prefer to use cash to add funds to Suica, use a JR East tray-type ticket machine or ask the cashier at a convenience store that accepts Suica.

How do I update my personal information for Suica in the Fitbit app?
  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap the devices icon   your device.
  2. Tap the Wallet tile.
  3. Tap Suica  Update Your Info.
  4. Update your information, and then tap Update.

Note that if you remove Suica and set up a new card, your personal information is saved from the first card. To update your personal information, follow the instructions above after you set up your new card.

How do I see and download my Suica transaction history in the Fitbit app?
  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap the devices icon   your device.
  2. Tap the Wallet tile.
  3. Tap Suica  Transaction History. See your recent transactions, including transit rides, purchases and top-ups.
  4. To receive an email with your transaction history, tap Email Transaction History.

Transactions can take 24 hours to appear in your transaction history in the Fitbit app.

Note that the transaction history for Suica on your Fitbit device is only available in the Fitbit app. You won’t see these transactions in the mobile Suica app.

How do I remove Suica from my Fitbit device?
  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap the devices icon   your device.
  2. Tap the Wallet tile.
  3. Tap Suica  Remove Card.
    • If you want a refund for your balance, tap Refund and Remove. Note the following:
      • To receive a refund, your card must have a balance of at least ¥221.
      • You must fill out a refund application in the Fitbit app. The refund application including your bank information is submitted to JR East.
      • You must have a Japanese bank account to receive your refund.
      • Suica charges a ¥220 removal fee, which is deducted from your refund.
    • If you don’t want a refund, tap Remove Without a Refund. Suica is removed from your Fitbit device, but your remaining balance isn’t refunded to your bank account.
How do I suspend Suica on my Fitbit device?
  1. From the Today tab  in the Fitbit app, tap the devices icon   your device.
  2. Tap the Wallet tile.
  3. Tap Suica  Suspend Card.

When Suica is suspended, your Fitbit device isn’t recognized by the automated gate, bus on-board reader, or Suica reader. To resume functionality, tap Resume Card.

Can I add an existing Suica to my Fitbit device?

You must set up a new Suica in the Fitbit app. You can’t add existing plastic or mobile Suica cards. For more information, see How do I set up Suica on my Fitbit device?

Note that even if you use Suica in another app on your phone, you must add a new Suica in the Fitbit app to use Suica on your Fitbit device. Suica on your Fitbit device will have a different Suica ID number than your other cards.

Can I add a second Suica to my Fitbit device?
You can only add 1 Suica to your Fitbit device.
Do I need to have my phone nearby to use Suica on my Fitbit device?
You don’t need to have your phone nearby to use Suica on your Fitbit device. After you set up Suica, you can make payments from your device and leave your phone at home. However, to add funds to Suica or check your transaction history, you need to use the Fitbit app on your phone.
What should I do if my Fitbit device runs out of battery during a trip?
Make sure your Fitbit device is charged before beginning your trip. If you can’t tap out of the station gate because your Fitbit device’s battery is completely drained, see a JR East station agent to pay your fare in cash or other method. The next time you enter a station with your charged Fitbit device, ask a JR East station agent and explain that you tapped in to the ticket gate without tapping out.
What should I do if I lose my Fitbit device?

If you lose or can no longer access your Fitbit device, contact Fitbit Customer Support.

Note that pressing the Deactivate Fitbit Pay button in the fitbit.com dashboard doesn’t remove or deactivate Suica.

I want to give my Fitbit device to someone else—what should I do?

Before giving your Fitbit device to another person, remove Suica in the Fitbit app. For instructions, see How do I remove Suica from my Fitbit device? Then, follow the instructions in How do I erase my Fitbit device?

Note that erasing your Fitbit device doesn’t remove Suica. If you forget to remove Suica before erasing your device or giving it to someone else, Suica is removed from your Fitbit device when the device is set up on a new account. If your card is applicable for a refund, you’ll receive an email with a link to the refund request form.

If you set up your device using the same Fitbit account, Suica remains on your device and you don’t need to set it up again.

Can I transfer Suica to a new Fitbit device?

You can't transfer Suica to a new Fitbit device. If you switch to a new Fitbit device, set up a new Suica.

What should I do if Suica is disabled?

If you receive an error in the Fitbit app that Suica is disabled, you can’t use it. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove Suica from your Fitbit device.

Why can’t I add funds to Suica on my Fitbit device?

If you see an error message when you try to add funds to Suica:

Make sure your phone has a strong internet connection and try again.

Make sure your Google Wallet account has a valid payment method and funds. For more information on using Google Wallet, see support.google.com.

Why don’t ticket gates and cash registers recognize my Fitbit device?

If you suspend your card in the Fitbit app, ticket gates and cash registers don’t recognize your Fitbit device. Resume your card to reactivate it. For more information, see How do I suspend Suica on my Fitbit device?

If you haven’t used Suica on your Fitbit device recently, it automatically deactivates. To reactivate it, add funds to Suica in the Fitbit app, or take your Fitbit device to a JR East station agent, and explain you haven’t used Suica recently.

What should I do if I receive an error or duplicate charges when I use my Fitbit device to pay at a store or vending machine?
You might receive an error if you move your Fitbit device away from the reader before the payment finishes processing. If you receive an incomplete payment error or duplicate charges, take your receipt to the store where the error occurred. If the error occurred while using a vending machine or coin locker, use the contact information displayed on the machine.
How do I request a receipt for Suica top-up transactions?
From the fitbit.com dashboard, click settings  your device  Fitbit Pay  Request Receipts. After you confirm you want to receive the receipts, you’ll receive an email.
Can I purchase a green ticket or commuter pass with Suica on my Fitbit device?
You can’t purchase green tickets or commuter passes at this time.
How do I use my Fitbit device to access the Shinkansen e-ticket service or Touch de Go! Shinkansen?

Register Suica on your Fitbit device with the service you want to access:

  • Shinkansen e-ticket service
  • Touch de Go! Shinkansen

Touch the Shinkansen automatic ticket gate with your Fitbit device.

Is there an annual fee for using Suica on my Fitbit device?
There’s no annual fee for using Suica on your Fitbit device.
What’s the maximum balance of Suica on my Fitbit device?
When you set up Suica, you can add up to ¥5,000. After you use Suica on your Fitbit device for some time, the maximum balance increases to ¥20,000.
